Extruder drive

The extruder drive system usually consists of an electric motor, a reduction gearbox and bearings. During the extrusion process, the screw speed must be stable and not vary with the screw load in order to maintain a uniform quality of the resulting product. However, in different situations the screw must be able to change its speed so that the machine can extrude different plastics or different products. Therefore, this part generally uses AC rectifier motors, DC motors and other devices to achieve stepless variable speed, and the general screw speed is 10~100 rpm.





The role of the extruder drive system is to drive the screw and supply the torque and speed required by the screw in the extrusion process, usually consisting of an electric motor, reducer and bearings. The manufacturing cost of the reducer is roughly proportional to its external dimensions and weight, provided that the structure is basically the same. The large size and weight of the reducer means that more material is consumed in its manufacture, and the bearings used are also larger, increasing the manufacturing costs.



For the same screw diameter extruder, a high speed and high efficiency extruder consumes more energy than a conventional extruder, doubling the motor power and increasing the seat number of the reducer accordingly is a must. But a high screw speed means a low reduction ratio. For the same size reducer, a lower reduction ratio increases the gear module compared to a larger reduction ratio, and the capacity of the reducer to withstand the load increases. Therefore the increase in volume and weight of the gearbox is not linearly proportional to the increase in motor power. If the extrusion volume is used as the denominator and divided by the weight of the gearbox, the high speed and high efficiency extruder will have a smaller number and the normal extruder will have a larger number. In terms of unit output, the low motor power and the low weight of the reducer of a high speed and high efficiency extruder means that the manufacturing cost per unit output of a high speed and high efficiency extruder is lower than that of a normal extruder.
