What is POE?

1. What is POE elastomer

POE in a broad sense refers to polyolefin elastomers made by copolymerizing ethylene a olefins such as ethylene-octene copolymers, ethylene-butene copolymers, ethylene-hexene copolymers, etc., which are generally produced by metallocene catalysis. POE in a narrow sense refers to ethylene-octene copolymer.

2. What are the properties of POE elastomers

The basic characteristics of POE elastomers are high octene mass fraction (less than 20% is plastomer, more than 20% is elastomer, generally refers to the latter), low density, very narrow relative molecular weight, and a certain degree of crystallinity. Its structure The medium crystalline PE exists in the side chain of the amorphous comonomer, the crystalline PE chain links serve as physical crosslinks to bear the load, and the long chains of amorphous ethylene and octene provide elasticity. Its specific performance is as follows:

1. Low specific gravity, clean.

2. Good light transmittance.

3. Excellent heat sealing performance.

4. Excellent polymer compatibility.

5. Very high inorganic filling ability.

6. Excellent flexibility and puncture resistance.

7. Excellent elongation and high elasticity.

8. Excellent low temperature impact resistance.

9. Excellent electrical insulation performance.

3. Where can POE elastomers be used?

1. PP modification

PP has low notched impact strength and outstanding low-temperature brittleness, which limits its application. It is the most widely used method to improve the impact performance of PP by blending with elastomer POE. The modified and toughened PP can be applied to car bumpers, car door panels, home appliance shells, office stationery, plastic parts for battery cars and motorcycles, and PP jelly cups. Compared with traditional EPDM, POE as a PP impact modifier has obvious advantages: the mixing process is simpler; the mixing and dispersion are more complete; it is toughened while maintaining the higher yield strength and fluidity of PP.

2. Improve the performance of PP/PE regrind.

PP/PE regrind will become brittle due to degradation or cross-linking after processing. It cannot be added in large quantities or used directly. Adding POE for blending and granulation or direct injection molding will greatly improve the performance of PP/PE regrind and can be applied. Used in plastic pallets, plastic turnover boxes, plastic tool boxes, plastic office and chair accessories, beach chairs, etc.

3. PA nylon and other engineering plastics are toughening and compatibilizing agent.

Although the non-polarity of POE makes its compatibility with engineering plastics such as PA and PET poor, POE can be smoothly and effectively combined with maleic anhydride (MAH) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) through peroxide initiation. , Acrylic acid AA and other monomers undergo a grafting reaction, and the obtained grafts are widely used to toughen engineering plastics such as PA, and can also be used as a compatibilizer in plastic alloys.

4. Use foaming with EVA.

The flexibility and resilience of POE are much higher than that of EVA, and foaming will have a better effect. For example, the foamed product will be lighter in weight, compress and rebound better, feel good, and have uniform and fine cells, and tear Outstanding advantages such as high strength. Whether it is molded foaming or injection foaming after granulation, POE has been widely used in beach shoes, slippers, midsoles of sports shoes, mouse pads, seat cushions, styrofoam materials, thermal insulation materials, cushioning sheets, Luggage lining and other foamed products.

5. POE for modification of EVA extrusion hose

In the hose industry, especially extruded and wound corrugated pipes, the mixed use of EVA and POE results in a product that is more flexible, has better flex resistance and better resistance to environmental stress. It is added to the inner layer of the extruded hose to make the hose have a pollution-resistant seal, the required heat sealing temperature is low and the heat sealing strength is higher. Widely used in vacuum cleaner hoses, washing machine hoses, drain pipes.

6. Color masterbatch or filling masterbatch

The extremely low crystallinity of POE makes it have good tolerance for filling and excellent fluidity. POE is used as a carrier in the masterbatch or filler masterbatch or as a substitute for PE wax, which can improve the quality of the masterbatch or filler masterbatch. .

7. Hot melt adhesive

POE can replace EVA to produce high-end hot melt adhesives, and the product can be odorless, low density, high flow coating, good wettability, etc. It can also be used in conjunction with EVA.

8. Cable material

POE has excellent electrical insulation, ozone resistance, fire resistance, weather resistance, anti-aging properties, and high crosslinking efficiency. It can replace EVA, EEA or EPDM for insulation of non-PVC cable sheathing materials; in addition, POE has a low rate of change in hardness and strength. It can replace EVA or be used in combination with EVA to produce halogen-free flame-retardant cable materials.

9.Film products, such as PE film

Based on the blending of POE/LLDPE/CPP, POE has excellent low-temperature heat-seal performance, hot-adhesive strength and resilience performance, that is, widening the heat-sealing window temperature of the heat-sealing layer and bringing about the rebound and tear resistance of the film itself Good improvement.
