The main properties of PET film

1. Mechanical properties



(1) Stretchability

The tensile strength, elongation, elastic modulus and stress at 5% of the PET film. The tensile properties of PET film vary significantly with processing conditions. Generally, the tensile strength of the commercially available biaxially oriented PET film is about 250MPa, the tensile elongation is about 120%, the elastic modulus is about 4GPa, and the F-5 value is about 110MPa.

(2) Viscoelasticity

It shows the viscoelasticity of the biaxially stretched PET film. There are two peaks on the tg8 curve, one is about -50¡ãC and the other is about 120¡ãC. The -50¡ãC peak is due to the ¦Â transition caused by the movement of molecular side chains. The 120¡ãC peak is the a transition caused by the movement of the main chain, which is consistent with the glass transition temperature (T). Due to the molecular orientation, the Tg of the biaxially oriented PET film is much higher than that of the amorphous PET. It is amorphous. The T. of PET is about 70¡ãC.


(3) Spread tear strength


The strength decreases with the development of biaxial stretching.



(4) Impact strength

The impact strength of the film, biaxial stretching usually increases the impact strength.





2. Thermal performance


(1) Reversible deformation

When the PET film is heated and cooled at a low temperature, the deformation changes to the original size with the temperature change. This deformation is called reversible deformation. The thermal deformation rate is called the "thermal expansion coefficient", and it is usually measured at 65% RH (relative humidity) between 20 and 40¡ãC. The value of the thermal expansion coefficient is closely related to the molecular orientation and the thermal motion of the molecular chain.



(2) Irreversible deformation

When the film is heated to a high temperature, thermal shrinkage occurs and the film no longer returns to its original size, which is called irreversible deformation. The heat shrinkage value is determined by the heat curing temperature and relaxation ratio. The relationship between the temperature of the PET film and the heat shrinkage rate. In general, the higher the molecular orientation, the greater the thermal shrinkage.




3. Optical performance
The refractive index of uniaxially stretched PET film is different in three directions. As the stretching ratio increases, the refractive index increases in the stretching direction and decreases in the thickness direction, while perpendicular to the stretching direction, the refractive index decreases in the initial stage, and then increases with the increase in the stretching ratio. This change is caused by the difference in the degree of plane orientation. The barrier properties decrease with increasing temperature.




4. Chemical resistance
PET film is slightly weaker in resistance to alkali, but extremely resistant to acid. PET film is insoluble in general organic solvents.
