The Key Role of Coaters in the Manufacturing of Optical and Display Films

Coaters are indispensable core production equipment in the optical film and display industry. From smartphones and tablets to large liquid crystal displays (LCDs), many functional optical film layers inside these devices rely on precision coaters for manufacturing. By uniformly applying functional optical adhesives and coating materials onto the surface of substrates, coaters endow films with properties such as brightness enhancement, anti-glare, hardening, and anti-fingerprint.

In the production of brightness enhancement films (BEF) and prism films, coaters are used to apply precision optical microstructural layers. The coating uniformity and defect control capability of coaters directly affect the conductivity, light transmittance, and reliability of touch sensors. High-precision coaters are key to realizing mass production of large-size, low-resistance, and high-transmittance touchscreens.

Furthermore, in cutting-edge fields such as flexible displays (OLED) and quantum dot displays (QLED), coaters are being used to apply functional films like encapsulation layers and quantum dot color conversion layers. These processes place extreme demands on coaters in terms of environmental cleanliness, coating precision, and drying/curing processes, driving the development of coater technology to a higher level.
